So it looks like my statement earlier that my version of Education Solidworks CAM could not do 3 and 4 axis tool paths is incorrect. It looks like all the 2020-2021 Solidworks Education versions now include Solidworks CAM Professional. To be honest if I learned a few more shortcuts I would probably be happy with fusion. I think I just got so used to solidworks that the switch was difficult. The CAM is very easy to use and the results are great. I should point out the awkward part of fusion for me is the CAD. I only got rid of solidworks because the cost was just too high. Both programs are far more capable than I am and the end results are better than I need in either program. I never got used to the interface with fusion and to this day find it to be awkward to use. I moved from solidworks to Fusion 360 a few years ago. ![]() Does it include CAM? If so I might have to look into it. I have heard about the solidworks through EAA its been a thing for a while. I had thought that “something else” would be Fusion360 but now I’m not so sure.įor now I will renew my license at least one more time. I’ve always known that I was going to have to do something else once I needed to run a true 3D toolpath. Fusion 360 for personal, hobby use Free CAD + CAM software for individuals who are doing hobby, non-commercial design and manufacturing projects. But I’ve struggled with it anyways just because it was integrated into Solidworks. The Solidworks CAM is really CAMWorks, which I have found to have a weird approach to CAM. This gets me a Student version of Solidworks for only $125, plus I get access to commercial CNC mills and lathes, and commercial 3D printers. CAD Forum - Parametric 3D curves in Fusion 360. Since I am already familiar with Solidworks, it has been too easy for me to be lazy and just sign up for a Solidworks class every year or so at the local community college. so please excuse the sloppy order of operations for the Fusion 360 model. ![]() More expensive versions of Solidworks has better CAM. Modding Central Generals Editing Forum: Really annoying bug in Generals. The Student version of Solidworks only has 2.5-Axis CAM. I’ve been intending to start using Fusion360, but I’ve never gotten much past some intro tutorials. Some code that I developed in my previous job would max out any computer that it was running, the more cores you had the quicker it would do the work. This doesn’t affect me very much at this point. But when you can take advantage boy can you take advantage. There's a lot of nuances to writing good multi-threaded code and for the vast majority of software / people / companies it's not worth the hassle when it's quicker and cheaper to buy faster hardware. I don't know how much Fusion 360 offloads to the cloud so internet speed / latency may have something to do with it (I have this hatred of anything relying on the internet). My suggestion would be - spec up a fast processor with a few cores (because it allows things to run in the background) but spend some money on graphics, memory and fast SSDs. Buongiorno, sono Pietro Caria e mi sono avvicinato da poco alle macchine cnc. they're iterative so would benefit from higher clock speeds rather than more cores. A single-core processor that's faster would likely out-perform a monster server that has hundreds of cores. It's an iterative process so fundamentally it's very difficult to multi-thread and take benefit of multi-core processors.
